2nd Lt Robert Shipp Jr. was a graduate of Ackerly High school, class of May, 1938 and attended Texas Techonological college for two years. He was employed at Ackerly Service Station which his father owned.

He enlisted in Lubbock, Texas on 23 March 1942.

Lt Shipp received his wings and commission April 22, 1943 at Pampa, after prelimanary training at Stamford and Sherman. Before going overseas, he had additional training at Pyote, Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Grand Island, Nebraska. He had been in England since September.

At 1327 hours, from 15,000 feet, aircraft 42-37742 was observed dropping out of formation at 5357N-0720E. No parachutes were observed coming out from this plane. All 10 crew members were KIA.
