1st Lt Harold Levin enlisted in Elmira, New York on 9 April 1942.

Statement from S/Sgt Charles A. Shriver Jr., 37229982, 324th BS:
"Aircraft believed to be B-17G, 42-97519, was last seen going down apparently out of control in a tight spiral, near Eschwege, Germany, just prior to bombs away. This was shortly after tail attack by enemy aircraft."

Six crew members survived and ended up POW, the remaining four crew members were KIA. Surviving crew member reports indicate that 1st Lt Harold Levin did not bail out as he was wounded and caught in bomb bay. He was killed in the crash.
