F/O Sidney Muzzy joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Santa Ana, California as an aviation cadet on 19 March 1943.

The aircraft took a flak hit in the right wing which broke off at #4 engine.

Eight crew members were killed. They were first buried at the Memorial Cemetery at Elsgrund-Döbertitz on 24 May 1944. Between 30 November and 7 December their remains were disinterred and evacuated to Ardennes.

One crew member, the co-pilot, Joseph J. Kozina was taken prisoner.
