Darrell R. Dickenson enlisted on 29 November 1942. He was sent overseas on 7 September, 1943.

The airplane was hit by flak that set off flares who where on board. Three crew members were taken prisoner, seven were killed who were initially buried at the community cemetery of Ölper.
