More information

T/Sgt Grant H. L. Scott was a painter in construction and maintenance before he volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in San Francisco, California on 16 December 1941.

Flak knocked out #4 engine and caused damage in other places. It crash landed near the road from Halenbeck tot Freienstein. Witnesses on the ground saw it circling several times around Halenbeck with one engine stopped, which was smoking and was probably on fire. After loosing altitude, it finally attempted a belly landing, 300 m north of Halenbeck. During this maneuver, the aircraft touched the trees and the great stoneblocks lying around and overturned several times and was finally torn into pieces. The left wing probably exploded.

Two crewmembers were killed. S/Sgt Glenn D. Brown and T/Sgt Grand Scott were both victims of 20 mm fire and were killed instantly. They were buried in Halenbeck on 7 March 1944.

The other eight crew members were taken prisoner.
