1st Lt Robert J. McAuliffe graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1940.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in San Antonio, Texas on 18 December 1942.

The formation was attacked by enemy fighters. Further information about the exact circumstances of the loss of the airplane are not known. Four crew members survived and were taken prisoner, six were killed.
