Aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision en route to target with bomber flown by Lt Powers, and the tail assembly of Chappell's bomber was sheared off. Remains of A/C went into a spin and crashed in the Baltic Sea a mile from Danish soil. Only one man from the Chappell crew survived and was taken POW.
Lt Fuller’s body was recovered by the Germans on June 21, 1944, in an area known as Grosser Belt. He was buried in a local Danish cemetery in Korsoer, Sjaelland Island, June 22, 1944. Fuller’s remains were recovered in 1948 by Graves Registration and were reburied in the Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre. Belgium.
