F/O Alex M. Rodek graduated from Crane Technical High School in 1938. He was on the track team as well as the Honor Society. He was employed at the Buick Aviation Engine Plant.Aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision en route to target with bomber flown by Lt. Powers, and the tail assembly of Chappell's bomber was sheared off. Remains of A/C went into a spin and crashed in the Baltic Sea a mile from Danish soil. Only one man from the Chapell crew survived and was taken POW.
