More information
I saw aircraft 42-100372 right after it was hit. It started down on a level flight, followed by fighters. The top turret was firing all the way down until out of sight. The aircraft was under control and I observed one chute coming out back of hatch. The crew had plenty of time to bail out after the plane passed out of my sight at 18000 feet.Source of information: Peter Schouteten, www.389thbg.net, www.wwiimemorial.com, www.archives.gov, www.ancestry.com - Family Trees
