More information
Mid-air collision with Bosetti. A/C 42-72868 crashed into 42-72875 and both went down over the target, just prior to releasing bombs, between 1117 and 1142 hours. 42-72868 may have been hit earlier by rocket fire and lost control, with the result that it smashed into plane 42-72875. The No. 4 engine of plane 42-72868 hit behind the No. 1 engine of plane 42-72875. Aircraft 42-72868 immediately broke up and the 42-72875 went into an almost vertical dive.Source of information: Peter Schouteten, Michel Beckers, www.389thbg.net, www.wwiimemorial.com, www.archives.gov
