More information

S/Sgt Ernest J. Triffo graduated from Central High School and was employed by Ansco before he enlisted in Albany, New York on 19 February 1941.

He was reported wounded in action on the leg by shrapnel on 7 August 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Sgt Triffo had just moved his infantry unit into position to guard the town of Vire against flank and rear counterattacks when he was struck by a mortar shell fragment. "I never heard the shell that hit me", he said. "The medics were nearby and took care of me immediately." He was sent to England for recovery.

One photo was taken before leaving for the induction center in Albany.

His brother Joseph also served in the European theatre.
