Pfc John L. Stephens graduated from the Algona High School in 1942. He was employed at the Sorensen Grocery before he enlisted on 17 May 1943.He was married to Betty Lee Geering on 24 July 1943. Their daughter was born on 13 November 1944.
He was overseas since September 1944.
While giving first aid to the wounded on the field of battle he was shot and instantly killed.
