Sgt Arthur R. Edwards completed three years of high school and spent eight years traveling the seas as a member of the Maritime service.He enlisted in Jamaica, New York on 28 April 1941. Originally attached to the 212th Coast Artillery Regiment, he was sent to Washington D.C., then to Norfolk, Viriginia, followed by Seattle, Washington, after the war began. He later served as a Communications Sergeant in an anti-aircraft unit stationed at Camp Haan, California. Sgt Edwards transferred to the infantry in the fall of 1944, trained in Texas and in Maryland, and had been overseas about a month at the time of his death.
