Pfc George Shields enlisted at Fort Sill, Oklahoma on 4 February 1942. He trained at Camp Wolters and Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

He was reported wounded in action on 27 July 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.

He was overseas since 14 months when he was killed.

He is remembered at the Kiowa City Cemetery, Kiowa, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma.
