More information

Pvt Peter Ovian attended 1 year of college.
He loved music and was a very large muscular man, over 6ft tall and weighed about 230lbs. His nickname was “Rock”, which was a combination of his physical stature and his quiet nature.
His parents were Turkish immigrants.
He had a back problem which prevented him from joining the army initially. He was very depressed over it and kept trying to join over and over again, and finally they let him in.
Pvt Peter Ovian enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 30 September 1943.
He ended up playing in the Army Marching Band and initially served with a coastal artillery unit on the East Coast of the United States. As the Allies were preparing for invasion, he was transferred to the infantry. He went overseas in January 1944.
Pvt Ovian was shot in the stomach and died from that wound a few days later in a field hospital in the vicinity of Plabennec, France.

At the time of his death, his brother Leo J. Ovian was a radio operator/gunner on a B-17. His other brother Edward also served.
