The day, they arrived to defend the perimeter around Bastogne, their objective was to reach Neffe and take defensive positions. Just before they enterred the village, two jeeps were send ahead to scout the area. When they turned a corner, they were fired upon by machineguns. Pfc Benedetto was the front passenger of the first jeep and responsable for the radio that he was wearing on his back.
