Sgt De Witt S. Terry enlisted on 5 March 1943 in Phoenix, Arizona.He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously. The citation cited: For extraordinary heriosm in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company G, 401st Glider Infantry Regiment, attached to Company L, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, in action against enemy forces on 30 September 1944. Sergeant Terry's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 82nd Airborne Division and the United States Army.
He was awarded the order of Knight in the Dutch Military Order of William 4th Class posthumously on 8 October 1945. The citation cited: For having distinguished himself troughout the fighting of the 82nd Airborne Division in the vicinity of Nijmegen in the period from December 17th to October 4th by excellent acts of courage, tact and loyalty. Thereby repeatedly having shown extraordinary devotion to duty and great perseverance; in all respects having set a praiseworthy example, an inspiration to all in those glorious days during which he lost his life.
