Charles H. Gilbert attended South Kingston High School and was a farmer.He volunteered for the Army of the United States in Providence, Rhode Island on 8 June 1942.
The airplane was attacked by German fighters. Some of the crew members bailed out and some ditched with the plane. Of the ten crew members, only T/Sgt Gilbert was the only casualty.
