2nd Lt Walter Kozel studied medicine for four years at the University of Nebraska.He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States on 26 January 1942 at Fort Francis E. Warren, Wyoming. He received his wings on 31 October 1942 in Victorville, California.
The aircraft was seen to go down after being attacked by two FW-190's.
One crew member survived and was taken prisoner, nine men were killed.
