1st Lt Robert W. Simons was a mechanic.

He joined the Air Corps of the Regular Army in Wausau, Wisconsin on 20 January 1941.

The aircraft was shot down by enemy aircraft. One crew members survived and was taken prisoner, nine were killed. They were initially buried at the community cemetery of Hof Gnadenthal.

He is remembered at the Union Grove Cemetery in Goodnow, Oneida County, Wisconsin.
