Cpl Raymond C. Gardner enlisted in Monroe, New York on 28 June 1940 and served 33 months with a field artillery unit in Puerto Rico. He returned to the United States in April 1944, and was stationed at Camp Stewart, Georgia until he went overseas in September 1944.His brother William was stationed in England and his brother Richard was serving with the U.S. Navy. His brother Ralph received a medical discharge.
