Pfc. George M. Strype enlisted on 6 March 1943 in New York City, New York.

He was a graduate of the Visitation Parochial School. As a graduated of this school he received a medal for excellence in history and civics.
He was also a graduate of Brooklyn Preparatory School and was attending the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute before he enlisted.

He received his training at Camp Hood, Texas, studied under the A.S.T.P. at Louisiana State University and also trained at Camp Maxey, Texas.

He was first reported Missing in Action.
