More information
Pvt Edward W. Allord was employed by the Annett Box Co. before he enlisted in Machester, New Hampshire on 7 July 1944. He was sent overseas in December 1944.In September 1947, his family requested that his remains would be buried in the Flanders Field Cemetery in Belgium. This was also the wish of Pvr Allord himself. Beacuse this cemetery was established as a remembrance of those Americans who died during World War I, it was impossible to comply with this request.
During our research, we found an email from his daughter, Mrs Katie Olson, dated 15 March 2011. An excerpt can be read below:
"Edward entered duty 7 July 1944, and went home on leave in November, seeing his newest daughter, Dorothy Ann, born 19 September 1944 for the first and last time. He was deployed overseas an on 17 March 1945, was killed in action in Germany. Edward was friendly and outgoing. He loved to sing while playing the piano or guitar. Priscilla, his firstborn daughter, remembers sitting with him at the piano while he sang and played.
When someone stops by my father's grave in the future, I want it to be known that my dad was a happy man who loved his family. He used to sing to his children while playing guitar or piano. He worked as a finish carpenter, and he took pride in his craft. His talents have not been forgotten as they have passed on to his grandchildren. One grandson is a builder and perfectionist like his grandfather and another grandson sings and plays guitar, self-taught, just like his grandfather. Edward was a proud man, and we love him still."
