Pfc. Donald M. Whitney was a stitcher in a verneer mill before he enlisted.

He was taken prisoner on 17 December 1944 in Belgium and later was liberated. He died from tuberculosis.

According to an article in the Burlington Free Press of 23 July 1945, he died in a hospital in France.
