T/Sgt David J. Jenkins Jr. was complimented by his superior officer for building an excellent platoon under extreme difficulties.He was killed in action while trying to aid a wounded comrade.
T/Sgt Jenkins had been recommended for a field commission to second lieutenant. His officer said: "He had proven himself a capable leader and a true friend to all, and always ready to lend cheer when the outlook was the darkest."
