Lt James Browne volunteered for the Army of the United States on 6 May 1942 and was selected for Officers Candidate School. He was sent overseas in September 1944.He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in action against the enemy in Belgium during the period from 16 to 18 December 1944.
