Pvt Lewis W. Starr enlisted in Toledo, Ohio on 28 August 1942. He was a driver before he enlisted.He was taken prisoner of war on 17 December 1944. At that day, his unit was fighting in the vicinity of Krinkelt, Belgium.
According to a German report, he was suffering from a compound fracture of his left lower leg and a penetrated right lung with haemopneumothorax, caused by a bullet wound. He was transported to the German Reserve Hospital II in Schleswig were he died on 3 January 1945.
Pvt Starr was initially buried at the Memorial Cemetery at Schleswig on 6 January 1945.
