Raymond Legg attended Anderson High School. He left high school in his senior year to enlist in the air forces.

He was credited with downing seven enemy planes for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

The airplane was attacked by enemy fighters, setting the #3 engine on fire.

Eight crew members were taken prisoner, two men were killed.
