S/Sgt Elwood R. Harris enlisted in Richmond, Virginia on 2 October 1941.
B-17 #42-30024 exploded on the ground while being serviced by ground crew. 23 men, including an officer and one civillian were killed in the blast. Two other planes were damaged in the explosion, one so badly it had to be scrapped.
S/Sgt Harris is buried next to his brother Carlton.
