More information

Paul Ehmann graduated from Michigan State College where he majored in agriculture and fruit-growing and joined the Army in June 1942 shortly after. He joined Reserve Officers Training Course and was sent overseas on 20 October 1943.

He had a son Paul Ehmann, Jr. who was four months old when he died.

The mission took place on 22 February 1944.

The airplane was attacked by German fighters and left the formation near Hameln, Germany. It was on fire and out of control.

Four crew members were taken prisoner, three men were killed. Apparently two men were able to escape captivity.

Lt Ehmann was found in the crashed plane and was severely wounded. He was taken to the Reserve Lazaret in Hermer where he died of blood poisioning after loss of his right eye and injuries by shrapnel of the extremities. He was initially buried at the hospital cemetery on 13 March 1944.
