S/Sgt Walter B. Sheehan graduated from Rockhurst High School and attended Rockhurst College.He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for gallantry for actions on 13 and 29 December 1944. When Sheehan's scouting patrol was fired upon by the enemy, concealed in a machine-gun nest, he defied enemy fire and annihilated the nest with hand grenades. On 29 December 1944 his outfit was suffering heavy casualties from an enemy machine-gun nest. He assaulted the gun and was wounded fatally.
