2nd Lt Robert T. Robinson joined the National Guard in New York City, New York on 16 September 1940. He was selected for Officers Training School at Fort Benning, Georgia where he received his commission on 14 July 1942. He was the youngest man to receive a commission up to that time.

He was reported wounded in action on 1 January 1945 and died of his wounds eight days later.

He was awarded the The Silver Star Medal posthumously, which was presented to his wife.
