Private Garnett F. van Zant graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1937 was employed by the Anaconda Copper Mining Co.He was married to Irene D. Fitzgerald on 1 April 1941.
He enlisted on 21 June 1944 at Fort Douglas, Utah.
He was killed in action while administering first aid to wounded comrades in the direct vicinity of Vallendar, Germany.
