Pvt John A. Kozdron attended high school for three years before he enlisted at Fort Sheridan, Illinois on 22 July 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand Failly, France.

In October 2022, while stationed with the US Military in Germany, Michael Mabe was given the honor of returning the original Purple Heart Medal to the Luxembourg American Cemetery at the request of Kozdorn's family. One of the photos was taken during a little ceremony at his grave.
