Sgt Louis J. Ehlinger attended high school for two years and was a foreman.He enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 14 June 1944 and was sent overseas in November 1944.
He was awarded the Silver Star posthumously for actions on 28 February 1945. The citation reads: "While leading his squad, he attacked an enemy position, braving intense enemy fire to single headedly wipe out strong point by killing two and taking several prisoners. He then led his squad in an attack upon another enemy strong point which cost him his life, but his gallantry enabled his squad to accomplish the mission."
