Pfc Ployd E. Stump attended high school for two years and was employed by the Keystone Paper Box Company before he enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 28 March 1942. He was sent overseas in February 1944.

He was reported wounded in action on 1 October 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Solers, France.
