S/Sgt Raymond H. Johnston was a electrician before he enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 4 November 1942.

The airplane was set on fire by enemy aircraft. Vaughn set course for Sweden but crashed in Angeln, north of Keppeln. The crew bailed out before they crashed near Stoltebül.

Johnston's parachute did not open up properly and he was found dead on the ground. He was buried in the Friedenshügel Cemetery in Flensburg, Germany.
