No definite information is available as to the disappearance of this aircraft. Aircraft was enroute to Kiel, Germany and return. Extreme battle conditions prevailed from time landfall was made on enemy coast to the target and about half way on course out of enemy coast. Nine aircraft were lost on this mission, all believed due to enemy fighter attacks. Fighter attacks and flak were most severe in the target area. Because of prevailing battle conditions accurate observations were impossible.
An aircraft believed to be the one piloted by Pilot Johnson was reported to have exploded at an altitude of 300 feet, half a mile from enemy coast on course out.
