Pfc Charles B. Simmons enlisted in Clarksburg, West Virginia on 27 November 1943. He joined his unit from the 41st Replacement Battalion on 19 July 1944.On 26 July 1944 he was lightly wounded in action and transferred to the 104th Evacuation Hospital for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time. After recovery he rejoined his unit and was promoted th Private First Class on 24 October 1944.
Pfc Charles B. Simmons was the brother-in-law of Pfc Robert W. Jeffries who is buried at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial.
