More information

Pfc Ivan D. Land worked on a farm.

He enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 3 April 1941.

He joined his unit from the 86th Replacement Battalion on 10 July 1944.

Pfc Land was reported severely wounded in action on 8 August 1944 in the vicinity of St. Malo, France. The morning report of that day mentions a direct artillery hit in the open door of a captured pillbox. The pillbox was full of wounded men, medics and a part of A Company. The powder magazin exploded causing a large flame. It is possible that Pfc Land was among the casualties. He was avacuated to the 108th Evacuation Hospital. It is not certain if he died in this hospital.
