S/Sgt Cyphers joined A Company from the 41st Replacement Battalion on 19 July 1944. He was lightly wounded in action on 8 August and rejoined his unit on 17 August 1944. On 16 December he was transferred to a hospital for a non-battle injury but again returned to his unit in a few days.

On 7 January 1945 he was reported missing in action. His body was found in March 1945, two miles east of Malempré. He was killed by a shotgun wound to the chest.

He was initially buried in a temporary grave at Henri-Chapelle on 5 March 1945 and was given his final resting place on 17 August 1948.
