T/Sgt Herschel L. Kelley graduated from Siskiyou Union High School in 1940.

He enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 22 August 1942.

The airplane was last seen with n° 4 engine smoking and a 20 mm hole in the right elevator, under control and heading for Denmark.

T/Sgt Kelley didn't bail out. He was last seen at his position in the plane, wounded by machine gun fire.

He was initially buried at the cemetery of Leck, Germany on 13 October 1943. He was disinterred on 27 May 1946 and transported to Ardennes Cemetery.
