Foster Stolp graduated from West High School. He attended Iowa State College in his first year when he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Chicago, Illinois on 24 June 1942. He received his wings in August 1943.

He aircraft was ht by flak and exploded. Three crew members survived and were taken prisoner, seven men were killed.
