Emmet L. Ludy attended high school for four years and worked in a machine shop.

He enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 3 August 1942.
The airplane was knocked out of formation by anti-aircraft fire and attacked and shot down by three enemy fighters.
Five crew members survived and were taken prisoner, five men were killed. They were initially buried at the cemetery of Bentstreek, Germany on 22 December 1943.
