Aircraft 42-29574, one of five aircraft, none of which were identified, was believed to have been hit by enemy aircraft and/or anti-aircraft fire in the target area and forced to land somewhere between the target and Juist Island.

Aircraft 42-29574 was attacked by a fighter and crashed at Fiebing near Bagband/Ostfriesland on 17 April 1943 at 1332 hours. 95% was damaged. 3 crew members were wounded and captured; the other six died.

S/Sgt Carl Quist didn“t bail out. He was initially buried together with the other crew members at the community cemetery in Wittmund on 20 April 1943.
