Sgt Douglas W. Wood enlisted on 5 July 1942.

As the fight started, his gun jammed, and he asked for help. He was killed on the plane by gunfire, apparently struck in the neck.

He was killed during his second mission.

Aircraft 42-29574, one of five aircraft, none of which were identified, was believed to have been hit by enemy aircraft and/or anti-aircraft fire in the target area and forced to land somewhere between the target and Juist Island.
Aircraft 42-29574 was attacked by a fighter and crashed at Fiebing near Bagband/Ostfriesland on 17 April 1943 at 1332 hours. 95% was damaged. 3 crew members were wounded and captured; the other six died. He was initially buried together with the other crew members at the community cemetery in Wittmund on 20 April 1943.
