More information
2nd Lt Robert L. Sandrock graduated from Genoa High School. He was a salesman employed at Pinkerton Tobacco Co.He enlisted in the Air Corps 26 October 1942. He was sent overseas in January, 1944.
2nd Lt Kenneth R. Kinsella: "Our position in formation was #3, second element, High squadron, high group. We were heading east and were several minutes inside German territory when attacks were started by 40 or 50 single engine fighters, mostly FW-190’s. The attacks were concentrated on the lead and low group. During the attack I saw the #3 ship of the second element, High squadron, low group receive a direct attack. I know that position was assigned to Lt. Rapp. Immediately after the attack the ship fell over and out of formation, going into two snap rolls and then a very fast tight spin. I watched the ship as far as possible and it was still out of control and spinning fast."
2nd Lt Robert L. Sandrock bailed out and was killed by the Germans on the ground.
