T/Sgt Vernon C. Larson was employed at the Northern Pacific Railway Company.He enlisted at Fort Lewis, Washington on 12 March 1942 and receiving his first six months of basic training at Sheppard Field in Texas. He was transferred to Seattle, Washington, where he spent a month at the Boeing Flying Fortress School. After graduation he entered Los Vegas aerial gunnery school for a period of six weeks, and upon completing training at this point he obtained his staff sergeant's rating and wings. Later on he received his technical sergeant's rating.
Prior to his overseas assignment Sgt Larson returned to Billings, where he and Constance Parsons were married. Mrs. Larson returned to Missoula and Sgt Larson was shipped to England where he had been for the past six months.
On 27 September 1943 he was on his first mission following release from a base hospital in England, where he had been confined for three weeks recovering from wounds received in action on 6 September 1943.
Vernon Larson was a member of the Connecticut Yankee crew. After the Connecticut Yankee crashed most of the crew were reassigned to "Local Girl".
The airplane was attacked by a ME 109 shortly after bombs away. N° 3 engine caught fire and flames also seemed to come from from and fuselage. It crashed at 10:30 at Geefsweer Village, South of Delfzijl.
Four crew members were killed, six were taken prisoner.
T/Sgt was picked up by some fishermen and some Germans soldiers tried to resucitate him but with no luck.
