Pfc Samuel T. Harvey graduated from Red Bank Regional High School in 1942 and attended Dickinson College.

He enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 23 June 1943 and was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program (A.S.T.P.) and studied at the University of Florida at Gainesville. When the program was disbanded he was sent to Camp McCain in Mississippi. He was sent overseas in August 1944 and served as a line runner and a French interpreter.
