2nd Lt Jacob A. De Rungs graduated from Ramona High School and was interested in baseball and had considerable of a reputation as a player.He enlisted in Brookings, South Dakota on 1 June 1942.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.
His brother, Pvt John C. De Rungs, was killed in action on 23 April 1945 on the island of Okinawa in the South Pacific.
